who do you surround yourself with

Surround yourself with greatness
Who are your teammates?

Who do you spend most of your time with?

Who do you listen to?

I was told a story when I was still very little. It is about a hunter who went to the forest to hunt for animals. He hunted all through the day but he did not get anything. He decided to rest for a while in the forest be he proceeded his journey back home.

When it was time for him to leave, he realized there was this strange movement around him. He quickly arose to see what it was. And he found a cute looking cub. The cub has been chased out of the group by the eldest lion in the pride. But this man decided that he would keep it as a pet. So he captured it and went home with the cub.
This hunter kept the lion as a pet.

He treated it more like a domestic animal and he tried all he could not to make this cub grow into a wild lion. The cub eventually became a gentle and loving lion that plays with the other animals in the hunters home. It would play with the goat, the sheep, and the other animals. But it never made an attempt to hurt them.
And that is the story of the lion that lost its identity of being the king of the jungle.

So I will ask again...
Who are your teammates?

Who do you spend most of your time with?

Who do you listen to?

Who do you surround yourself with?

So many times in life we let the lion inside of us to die unfulfilled by moving with the sheep. They do not only tame us, they deprive us of our rights. Instead of unleashing our potentials out with other lions in the jungle, they make us feed on hays with the sheep from the farm.

The sheep make us pass over opportunities repeatedly. They turn us into weakling who is afraid to take risk. They make us vulnerable to fear and inferiority. The make us believe in superstitious and refuse to chase our dreams. They make us live like mediocre. They make us hide our potentials and feel incompetent.

That is what the sheep of a friend does; They kill the lion inside us

Everyone was born unique, and that includes you. You were not meant to settle for less. But those who you spend most of your time with will definitely influence your thinking pattern. The saying, "show me your friends and I will tell you who you are." is very much correct. Friends will either do two things to you: they either break you or make you. They can never be neutral.

See: greatness is for everyone

Rich people do not keep friends with poor people. Not because they are proud but because they are two different people with different mindset.

The choice is yours to make. You either break friendship with those who pull you back. Or their friendship eventually breaks you down. Am not suggesting that you become friends with only those who can benefit you. Sometimes you must be friends with someone not for the benefit you will get from them. But rather, the benefits you can offer them.

Friends you should stay away from:

  • Friends who don't believe in your dreams
  • Friends who push you away in the crowd but path you at the back when no one is around
  • Friends who can't tell you the truth
  • Friends who do not share the same passion with you.

One of my favourite scriptures still remains Proverbs 13:20, Be friends with people who are wise, and you will become wise. Bit if you choose Fools to be your friends, then you will have trouble.

Share to encourage another lion living like a sheep.
